Knowing whether a software or solution vendor will be with you for the long run can sometimes feel like looking into a magic ball and seeing nothing but smoke.

But, if you know what to look for from the outset, it's possible to remove the smokescreen when you first start casting your eye about.

So, what should you look for in a Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution and its provider? Well, apart from making sure that you know what your business requirements are in this area, as well as who the stakeholders are and how they will need to use the solution on a daily basis, it is also important to have an understanding of what you might need from the system in the future, and how your chosen solution – and vendor – might be able to react to these needs.

Of course, it is not possible to know everything, but you can make sure that you choose a vendor which has an eye on current and future trends, as well as what was needed in the past and what might be needed in the future, such as which legacy systems can feed into the new solution and how adaptable it is to new technology.

There are many resources out there that can be used as a guiding light, but if you, like us, prefer to stay away from the fortune tellers, you could listen in to this impartial, on demand webinar from Research in Action: Analysing the Global Digital Asset Management Vendor Landscape.

Author of the Vendor Selection Matrix The Top 20 Global DAM Vendors 2019 and former Forrester Research Director Peter O’Neil, uses the session to talk about the challenges that the DAM market presents for the potential buyer, and how to overcome them with the ideal vendor selection process and the right knowledge on current and future market trends.

Listen in and take your time. The advice from Peter is to enter into your search with a solid idea as to what you need, what the market can currently offer, and what you might need it to offer your business and teams in the near future. Let this information inform your search and before you know it, your vendor selection process will have shortlisted a number of potentially suitable vendors of the right DAM solution for you, for the long haul.
