A great person once said, “DAMs are kind of like cakes. Like a great cake a great has to be adaptable. You have to be able to use whichever ingredients you want, you need to be able to bake or cook whatever you’d like, at whichever temperature, whenever you like and with whichever tools you need at the time. Restrictions to your cooking are simply not viable, just like restrictions on your DAM hold back your ability to create the best content for your ideal audience.”

The person who spoke those poetic lines won the Great DAM Bake Off in Chicago shortly thereafter. Wendy Skoulding, censhare business development product manager, demoed censhare’s platform as part of the central theme of our trip to Henry Stewart Chicago DAM Conference.

The win at the Bake Off was certainly the highlight of the event, but by no means the only. Rainer Heckmann and Paul Applegate hosted a roundtable on The 4th Generation of DAM. Rainer explained his theory that our industry is evolving from the 3rd iteration toward the 4th while leading a discussion that challenged the audience on what they currently know about the industry.

Why Henry Stewart?

Henry Stewart hosts DAM conferences in New York, London, Chicago, and Los Angeles every year. As digital asset management has evolved from a nice to have solution to a necessity Henry Stewart events have become progressively larger and truly the best place for people beginning their DAM search or people already seasoned in the DAM world to collaborate and learn from each other.

The expertise of the audience is one reason to have a presence there, but the expertise of the speakers is a reason to go in and of itself. By attending different sessions we were able to expand our industry knowledge and continue educating ourselves.

That’s Chicago!

It doesn’t hurt that Henry Stewart chooses some pretty nice places to host their events. I wrote extensively about my takeaways from New York and VP of Global Marketing, Ian Truscott, wrote about his experience in London. While Henry Stewart put on a great show in Chicago the inside of a hotel hardly compares with the life that Chicago provides. Without a slice of deep dish pizza and a trip to a steak house you haven’t experience Chicago.

Of course, a trip to a steak house and a pizza that take 45 minutes to make taste a lot better when you can justify them as a celebration. And a Great DAM Bake Off win is about the best reason to celebrate I can think of!

As it turns out, Wendy is right, DAMs are kind of like cake. Better yet, cakes that you can have and eat, as well. Not only will a DAM free you from any content restrictions you have and allow you to be completely agile with all of your content, but also allow you to disseminate your message to an omni-channel audience. And, just as nice, sometimes you can have a celebratory piece of cake because of the results you’ll end up realizing.
