Inside censhare: Ayurveda!

This week we go deep, deep Inside censhare and we find ourselves in the Munich office kitchen for an Ayurvedic Relief Week. Get a glimpse of some of the employee community activities that we do in all of our offices!

This week we go deep, deep Inside censhare and we find ourselves in the Munich office kitchen. It’s a place that normally provides an opportunity for the team to sit together and bond over a delicious, home-cooked meal. It has become a popular perk for our Munich colleagues.

However, in this episode of Inside censhare, we join Christina and a group of colleagues who took the healthy high road and signed up for ‘Ayurvedic Relief Week’. What has healthy eating got to do with content management you might ask (other than the contents of our bellies!)? Collaborative, creative working environments come about through so much more than a funky break-out space or team-building days. Getting behind projects together is a massively important part of building a successful team culture here at censhare.

It’s not just a healthy eating alternative, like cutting carbs or eating more salad, Ayurvedic medicine (also called Ayurveda) is one of the world’s oldest medical systems. Originating in India, it evolved there over thousands of years. For us modern munchers, Ayurveda requires a little more will power than just saying no to the delicious buttered pretzels that are a regular feature in the kitchen. It’s a whole new way of thinking.

In the video, one member of this intrepid group, Annika (a guest on Inside censhare before), gives us a thumbs up and shares her experience below.

I am yet to be convinced!

Is there anyone among us who hasn't, at one time or another, intended to eat healthier, or at least tried to change a few eating habits? Not just at home but also at work? I'll bet you that applies to most of us. On that basis, 25 or so curious censhare employees signed up for Ayurvedic Relief Week and promptly lined up at noon on Monday in our Media Lounge, armed with Tupperware bowls.

Not everyone has a clear understanding of the concept so Monday started off with an introduction to the ways of Ayurveda by coach Alexander Linder. I’ve already discovered that in some ways I perhaps in some ways I lack the spirituality required for Ayurveda, as well as the will to completely change my diet and way of life. But you can't deny that the hectic pace of our day-to-day work life means we often eat poorly and tend to reach for a slice of pizza or a cheeseburger. Our tastebuds are led astray much too easily by Glutamate & Co. and don't know how to properly appreciate a spicy lentil curry.

A Relief Week also means sacrifice and detoxification (translation: more lentil curry). In other words, a strict diet for five days – cereals, steamed vegetables, millet, quinoa, spelt, amaranth, kamut – and a whole lot of mung soup. Granted, the meals didn't always translate into pure pleasure.

Our bodies were forced to react to the altered diet. No sugar and no caffeine meant that withdrawal symptoms in the form of headaches were not long in coming. I can't say that by the end of the week I felt like I was a new person; just 5 days of the Ayurveda program wouldn't be enough for that. However, some of my colleagues did notice a clear difference and happily, experienced either an overall improvement in mood or 3 or 4 fewer pounds on their hips. I'm a firm believer that every approach offers valuable ideas. There are a number of Ayurveda recipes that aren’t just delicious (really!) but also interesting and varied and easy to include in anyone's daily routine.

More from Annika

Next week we will return to our normal diet, where I’ll be sharing an Inside censhare from a Stockholm, celebrating the one year anniversary of the opening of our Benelux and Nordics office opening. I interviewed various clients, partners and colleagues on their impressions so far and I look forward to sharing that with you.

Enjoy the video!
