Simple orientation in page planning

Page planning, as censhare’s central instrument for controlling and steering publications supports companies in their advertising sales. Version 4.8 extends the planning overview with area marking, indicating 25 percent of the issue size, for example. This shows ad marketers very quickly what price they can ask for a free advertising space on the basis of its position.

Sell ads quicker

In order to enable ad marketers to sell the available space in an edition as optimally as possible, they must know the areas of the issue with empty spaces. This is why the page planning of censhare 4.8 introduced page markings in the planning overview of an issue. Page planning is at the center of all the processes surrounding the planning and production of an issue, including the ads. The markings divide the issue into various areas.

The marking allows the ad marketer to see which areas are free for ads. It also shows whether an area can command a higher price because it is situated in the premium part of the issue. In this context, the markings indicate various areas such as 25 or 75 percent of the total issue. If required, the markings can be individually defined.

The markings also help the marketer to find the desired area for a booked ad quickly, in order to position it. Especially with large issues this helps the recognition of area boundaries at a glance. For later quality control it can easily be checked whether the ads are actually located in the area booked. The check can also be performed by censhare with the help of a rule defined in XSLT, thereby ensuring that errors cannot be overlooked.

Customization of the markings

censhare shows the markings for the various areas of the issue in the page planning section of the planning overview. The standard markers are set at 25, 50 and 75 percent of the issue. The markers, however, can also be individually defined. Therefore it would also be possible to set markers at 10, 30, 50, 70 and 90 percent, for example.

censhare displays the markings in page planning as a dotted line between two pages and shows the percentage value. The marked text can be adjusted and can include dynamic content like the name of an issue if required. The marked area grows with the text.

Via the "settings" menu in page planning, users can toggle the page markings with a checkbox.

If required, censhare can use XSLT on the markings to check whether the ad is located in the desired area of the issue. If this is not the case, a message appears in the warnings tab of the planning overview. The corresponding XSL style sheets can be developed on request.

Definition of the markings

The definition of the markings takes place centrally via the admin client. There is an area for the markings in the XML file for the client settings. For each marking there is a corresponding entry there to define its position and label.

XPATH is deployed for dynamic elements in the text. This allows access to the metadata of the page planning, as well as names etc. Instead of "50%", the label could be "Middle of March issue". "Middle of" is the fixed part and "March issue" is the name of the currently open page planning asset.

The markings are always located between two pages of an issue. If the marking is not located exactly between two pages after calculation of the page areas, but on one page, censhare takes the position to the right of this page. If the edition has 16 or fewer pages, then only the 50 percent mark is displayed. With eight or fewer pages the markers are not shown at all.
